WWF UNFORGIVEN 2001 | AIRED: September 23, 2001 |
Well after weeks of some serious hype - perhaps the most hype for a PPV since Wrestlemania of this year - the WWF had a lot to live up to. Could they do it? As a special bonus, I taped Sunday Night Heat to go along with the show. Nothing of note happened aside from a match, which took place moments before Unforgiven itself went on the air so I'll skip all the additional hype and get right to that and we'll be on our way. BILLY GUNN vs. TOMMY DREAMER It's funny - I kept making comments throughout Sunday Night Heat that I was hoping they'd give us a freebie so I could watch Tommy Dreamer job. Sure enough, the WWF was kind enough to serve up Tommy Dreamer - now all he has to do is lay down on his back for 3 and my wish is complete. Tommy goes to Gunn right away with lefts and rights, then whips him into the opposite turnbuckle. Gunn rolls out so Tommy follows, but gets caught on the apron and tossed face first into the security wall. Tommy gets rolled in, and Gunn fires away with some punches - then stomps away at Dreamer in the corner. Gunn yanks Dreamer from the corner, goes to the second turnbuckle and delivers a flying axehandle. Gunn throws Dreamer off the ropes - duck, and Dreamer knocks Gunn's legs out from under him. Gunn in the corner - and Tommy whips his legs around the post. Back in the ring, Dreamer tries to throw Gunn across the ring, but Gunn collapses due to his bad knee. Dreamer continues to work on the knee by driving the knee into the mat, then stepping on it. Gunn comes back with punches briefly but off the ropes and Dreamer gets a short powerbomb, and gets 2. Dreamer tries to slap on a figure four - and gets it. Using the ropes for leverage is a no no however, and the ref catches him. Dreamer sets Gunn up in a semi-Shattered Dreams position, and kicks at the groin a couple of times. Dreamer back, and charges at Gunn but misses a shoulderblock and hits the post! Gunn follows it up with the Fameasser as Tommy comes staggering out of the corner and scores the 3 count. Time: 3:19
Unforgiven is next! Ladies and Gentlemen: would you please stand for Jennifer Holliday who will be singing America The Beautiful. Here's a special look at the 2 big World Title matches going down tonight. It's in photo album style with video taking place at various intervals before going full blown video towards the end. Light the pyro! We are in Pittsburgh, PA. Tonight, 7 championships will be decided - which is a record number of championships on a WWF pay-per-view event. THE HARDY BOYZ vs. THE HURRICANE and LANCE STORM vs. THE BIG SHOW and SPIKE DUDLEY vs. THE DUDLEY BOYZ (in an Elimination Match for the WWF World Tag-Team Titles) Jeff Hardy attacks the Dudleys right away and knocks them off the apron, so The Big Show chases them on the outside. D-Von gets in and starts with Matt. They don't do much before Hurricane is tagged in to go head to head with Matt. They lock up, and Hurricane gets a headlock on Matt. Matt shoves him off into the ropes and knocks him down. He poses, then hits a quick fireman's carry takeover. Off the ropes - hiptoss by Matt. Matt knocks him down again and poses on his back. Jeff is tagged in, and the Hardys to a double back elbow, then standing senton / elbowdrop combo. Jeff gets 2. Jeff gets whipped near the Dudleys ring area, and promptly gets tossed via hairpull from Buh Buh. Jeff pulls him off the apron, then gets in and dropkicks Hurricane from behind which again knocks Buh Buh down. A rollup gets a 2 count. Spike wants in. Jeff complies, so Hurricane runs like hell and tags in Storm. Storm gets a backbreaker on Spike. Scoop and a slam! Hurricane is now tagged in because Spike is down. Scoop and a slam! Hurricane goes to drop and elbow but misses and Spike hits an inverted atomic drop. Off the ropes, Storm is blindly tagged in by Hurricane. On the other side, Spike leaps over Hurricane but gets caught by Storm in a Torture Rack style position, then hit with a Diamond Cutter from Hurricane. Storm grinds Spike's head into the mat, then goes and jaws with The Big Show. Show is not happy and distracts Storm long enough for him to get rolled up for 2. Spike gets a sunset flip on Storm which gets 2. Off the ropes, and Storm dropkicks Spike in the teeth. Buh Buh gets tagged in. Buh Buh steps on Spike's face, then nails The Big Show. Show takes a swipe but stays on the apron. Both Dudleys are in, and they double drop him down onto the mat. D-Von tags in Hurricane. Hurricane puts on the cape. JR declares it early in the evening for the cape. Hurricane off the top with a crossbody. Gutbuster from Hurricane, then a rollup and gets 2. He tags in Lance Storm and Storm kicks Spike in the head a bunch. Spike fights back but Storm keeps him in the corner. Spike hits the Dudley Dawg after knocking Hurricane off the apron! Show wants a tag and he wants it bad. The tag is in and here comes Show to kick some ass. He knocks down anything that's walking! Signals for the Chokeslam on Storm, but the Dudleys break that up. Everyone gets tossed now, except Hardys and Show. Jeff comes flying with a slingshot crossbody, and Matt follows suit. Spike meanwhile is in the ring and getting up on Show's shoulders. Spike gets launched on to all 6 guys. Show hears the cheers and looks to the turnbuckle. He starts the climb up and the fans are loving it! Buh Buh cuts him off though before he flies and the fans are NOT happy. Show takes them both down with a double clothesline. He tries the same with Storm and Hurricane but Hurricane ducks - however Storm gets nailed. Hurricane sets Show up for the Chokeslam in one of the funniest visuals ever. Show just looks at him wondering "what the hell are you doing?" and shoves him off. Storm is setup now - and it's Chokeslam city for him! There's a 3 count, and the superfriends are gone. Time: 6:55 3 teams left - and everyone gangs up on Show, leading for a double suplex to take him down. Spike goes after D-Von, and whips him into the ropes. Matt blind tags himself into the match and nails D-Von with a clothesline. Spike stomps on D-Von, and D-Von rolls out. Meanwhile, Matt sneaks up behind Spike and rolls him up for 2. Spike is setup on top, but comes forward with a Victory Roll for 2. Matt gets up, sets Spike under his arm and yells HOOOOOOOOOOOOO! If only he carried a 2 by 4 and had a beard. Spike shoves him off and they do a series of reversals which leads to a neckbreaker for Spike and that gets 2. Spike goes for the Dudley Dawg, but gets shoved off and Matt hits the Twist Of Fate. That's it for those guys. Time: 8:01 Dudleys and Hardys are left. You know, I FEEL like I've seen this matchup a thousand times, but a quick check at the record books says otherwise. At least not on PPV. Not that it's a problem from a quality standpoint by any means, god the match at Royal Rumble 2000 was phenomenal. Jeff hits Poetry In Motion on Buh Buh. He tries the same on D-Von but Buh Buh pulls him down by his hair. The Dudleys pose to boos. Buh Buh is tagged in and he chops at Jeff in the corner. Fans want tables. D-Von is tagged in. Jeff is sent off the ropes and D-Von hits a flying shoulderblock to send him down. Buh Buh is tagged in. Off the ropes, HUGE back bodydrop on Jeff. Matt sent off the apron, and he's steamed so he tries to get in only to be restrained by the referee. The Dudleys meanwhile hit a Wassup without any Wassup behind the ref's back. D-Von testifies. Now D-Von goes to the headlock, which he turns into a sleeper. Jeff is fading, but according to the hands in the air he's still with us. Jeff fights out of it and comes off the ropes - only to be met with a powerslam. That gets 2. Jeff gets tossed out of the ring, and Matt again is thrown from the apron. Buh Buh throws Jeff into the steps roughly! That shoulder didn't look like it hit so nicely. Jeff is rolled in, and D-Von covers for 2. Buh Buh gets tagged in with Jeff in their corner. He drops a double axehandle and that only gets 2. Buh Buh chops at Jeff, and throws him into the corner only to see Jeff climb up and come off with a sky twisting bodyblock. D-Von gets tagged but so does Matt and he's a man on fire! Dudleys get taken out all over the place, and a DDT on D-Von leads to a cover and gets 2. Matt throws Buh Buh out of the ring, then back bodydrops D-Von. Matt goes up top, moonsault from the top to the floor! Very smooth too! D-Von gets rolled in, Matt goes up and HOOOOOOOOOO it's a legdrop! Buh Buh pulls him out of the ring at 2. Matt gets back in and goes for a Twist Of Fate, but gets shoved off and Buh Buh has snuck back. Wait for it .3D! D-Von covers, but Jeff is there with a Swanton Bomb to stop it for making 3! Buh Buh Bomb on Matt! D-Von covers, we have a 3 count and the Dudleys retain! Time: 14:25
Rob Van Dam is here! Stephanie wants to know how it's going - and wishes him luck in his match against Jericho. If she can help in any way, she'll be glad to. He doesn't need any help, and he's the Whole Damn Show. He wants a dressing room big enough to contain his superstar status. Stephanie tells him to take whatever dressing room he pleases. He'll go take care of Jericho. Michael Cole is live in the front row with a whole lotta Angles. Jackie thinks Kurt will win because he puts his heart and soul into everything. His brother says he won the gold medals with a broken neck, so any neck problems he has tonight will be no problem. Here's a video package dealing with Saturn and Raven's history. You know, I was channel surfing a few days ago and caught some Jerry Springer briefly. It was about weird sex fetishes and this guy I saw was making out with an ice sculpture and getting it on with it I guess and all I could think of was Perry Saturn's relationship with a mop. It was QUITE disturbing to know there are people who can RELATE to this angle! RAVEN (with Terri) vs. PERRY SATURN Saturn tackles Raven as JR brings up the fact they're former WCW World Tag-Team Champions! I'm impressed. Saturn wails away on Raven, sends him off the ropes, and hits a back elbow. Springing off the middle rope now, Saturn hits a dropkick. Raven starts to walk away but Saturn chases him and brings him back to the ring. Terri pulls Saturn off the apron and Raven hits a baseball slide dropkick. Raven hits a half Russian legsweep towards the security wall and Saturn hits back first. Saturn comes back with a punch and charges forward only to meet a drop toe hold and go face first into the steps. Here's a shot of Terri, and I get the feeling it's cold in the arena for some reason. Saturn gets rolled into the ring and Raven punches at Saturn. Heyman tells JR it was Saturn's fault the Flock disbanded, but JR wouldn't know because he never watched Nitro. Ha, I love the commentary and history stuff here! Saturn gets run into the corner and taken out of it with a bulldog. The cover gets 2. Saturn kicks back, but gets caught with the cobra clutch and is taken down. Saturn gets up and runs towards the turnbuckles, ducking enough so Raven's head is driven into the corner instead of his own. Raven gets ticked and runs a knee into Saturn's midsection, sending Perry tumbling out of the ring. Saturn gets back on the apron but Raven drives his shoulder into Saturn sending him back out to the floor once again. Repeat that spot! Saturn up now a forth time, and catches Raven this time delivering a jawbreaker that sends him back. Saturn over the top with a sunset flip, but Raven drops to his knees with a cover, and uses the ropes for leverage. Saturn still manages to kick out at 2. Saturn gets sent into the corner, comes out and hits a hard standing sidekick! Saturn's firing away with punches now! He catches Raven and hits a waistlock style suplex. Now a T-Bone. Saturn springboards with a flying axehandle and covers as we get a shot of his face and see that he's bleeding from the eye. The cover gets 2. Whip into the corner, and Raven gets a boot up, though that changes with a leapfrog which sends Raven into the other corner. A rollup off that gets only a 2. Saturn drives Raven into the corner, and sets him up top. Saturn gets shoved off the top and comes with a flying clothesline. That gets 2. Raven comes off the ropes with a sunset flip and that scores a 2 count. Saturn reverses things though and seems to be dragging Raven around on his shoulders or something? He gives the fans a thumbs up and catapults Raven into the corner to NO REACTION. Three Handled, Moss Covered Family Gredunza follows and that's it. Time: 5:11
Promo for Kurt Angle's book. Lillian Garcia has Christian backstage. She wants to know if breaking up with Edge was worth it? "You know Lillian, I was thinking I was thinking that there's so many people in this world that come so close to fulfilling their hopes and dreams - only to fail miserably. You take a step out there tonight, and you'll see an arena full of people that fit that description to a tea. But you know, tonight, I have a chance to fulfill my dreams. To prove something to the world that I have known my entire life. That is I am superior to my brother Edge. But you know tonight, everyone's making such a big deal about 'will Kurt Angle win the WWF title?' Well I say who cares. When Unforgiven is written into the history books, it's going to remember that it was the night Christian walked away with the Intercontinental Title. So you're asking me the question, was it worth ending my relationship with my brother? You're damn right it was." Here's a look back at the relationship problems Edge and Christian have been undergoing since King Of The Ring. CHRISTIAN vs. EDGE (for the WWF Intercontinental Title) Edge takes his time coming to the ring, staring down at Christian. Finally he power walks to the ring and Christian immediately takes to pounding on his back. Edge comes up with a takedown and takes his shots at his brother. Christian whipped off the ropes, and elevated, and driven face first into the mat. Edge grabs him by the head and rams it into the ground repeatedly. Now he grabs Christian and throws him roughly into the corner, and goes for an early Buzzkiller. No dice though, as Christian rolls out of the ring smartly. Edge chases him up the aisle and they trade punches on the ramp. Christian continues to get away, so Edge gets him up near the set and knocks him to his ass with a right hand. He grabs Christian's legs, and catapults him into the set! Christian is down. Edge drags Christian back to the ring now and throws him back in. Edge still has control and throws Christian head first into the middle turnbuckle. We do the 10 count head slam sing along with Edge on Christian. Christian is begging for mercy, which lures Edge in and Christian throws him through the ropes, hitting the post on the way by, and out to the floor. Christian grabs Edge and sends him shoulder first into the security wall. Edge is then sent back first into the steps. Edge is rolled into the ring, and promptly gets stomped on. Christian calls him a son of a bitch. And that would make him what? Christian ducks a punch, and hits a reverse DDT / backbreaker combo. The first cover of the match is made and Edge kicks out at 2. Christian kicks him in the back and poses. Christian picks him up and slams him back first into the mat. I get the feeling his lip is busted open because he keeps checking it. Edge again slammed back first into the mat. Off the ropes, and a powerslam gets 2 from Christian. Christian gets aggressive and chokes him. Edge tries to fire back but Christian puts him in the corner yelling "you like that Edge?" and chops away. Edge comes out of the corner with chops of his own. Christian attempts to throw Edge back in the corner, but Edge hangs on, pulls him in and scores with a Russian legsweep! Both guys are down and the ref is counting. Edge is up first, and he heads up to the top rope, but Christian is ready and catches him. Superplex attempt is blocked, and Edge sends him back down to the mat. Edge comes off the top - Christian moves - but Edge was ready and lands on his feet. Edge hits the German suplex, and gets 2 out of the deal. A look at Edge shows he's bleeding from the eye. And the blood's not just trickling, this one's a gash. Edge charges forward at his brother, but Christian sidesteps and sends Edge crashing into the turnbuckle. Edge comes out of the corner and eats a dropkick. Christian scoots over quickly to cover and only comes up with 2. He covers a second time and again gets 2. Christian is getting vicious as he pounds away at Edge with some cheap shots on the mat and yells some more. As Christian leans over Edge, Edge kicks him in the head a couple of times, before getting to his feet. Off the ropes - duck a clothesline - and they meet on the other side with double crossbody attemps knocking them both down. They both get up, and Christian mounts Edge in the corner. Edge quickly shoves him off and comes out with a clothesline. Another one! Christian is sent off the ropes and hit with a back bodydrop. Edge picks Christian up by the hair twice, and twice drives him down to the mat. They go through a series of move reversals in the middle of the ring now, which leads to Christian being pulled back from behind. Edge hooks the legs but Christian manages to escape at 2. Edge goes off the ropes, and Christian drops him back over the top. Edge takes this chance to crawl underneath the ring and come up on the other side. Christian however doesn't know what happened to Edge, and by the time he figures it out, he is hit with a crossbody from the top, and that gets 2. Edge's whip is reversed so he's sent into the corner. Christian charges and eats boot. Edge tries a clothesline, Christian ducks so Edge has to stop short to avoid hitting the ref. When he turns around, Christian's waiting with the spear. There's a cover, and Edge kicks out at 2. Christian's frustrated now, and heads out to the floor to get a couple of chairs. He sets Edge up for a Conchairto, and chases the ref off. Right before he goes for it, Edge moves and trips Christian all in one smooth move - and Christian's on his back again. Edge slams Christian face first onto one of the chairs, and picks up the other one. Right before he hits it though, the ref grabs the chair and tosses it out. Meanwhile Christian takes the other one and lowblows Edge with it. Christian covers and wins the title! Time: 11:57
Here's a look back at Kronik's debut, and how they've affected The Undertaker and Kane. Coach is backstage with Taker and Kane. He wants to know what they're going to do. Taker's hot because of Steven Richards. He doesn't want to remember the RTC. Let's see what they can do when they look in the eyes of the dragon. KRONIK (with Steven Richards) vs. THE BROTHERS OF DESTRUCTION (for the WCW World Tag-Team Titles) Kronik meet the Brothers on the outside of the ring to start. Adams is paired off with Taker, and Clarke is with Kane. Taker manages to roll Adams into the ring, and we're off. Big boot, and legdrop, the cover and ONLY 2! Man, if this was the 80's . Adams set in the corner and Taker hammers away. Whip to the opposite side - Taker charges, but Adams gets an elbow up. Adams tries to capitalize, and runs at the Taker only to meet a drop toe hold. Taker drops the elbow twice and covers for 2. Kane is tagged in. He works over Adams with kicks and punches, before setting him on his rear end in the corner and stomps away. Whip into the opposite corner, and clothesline in the corner. Scoop and a slam, then Kane drops an elbow for 2. Whip attempt is stopped by Adams who back elbows Kane. Backbreaker from Adams slows down Kane, and he tags in Clarke. Clarke with boots to Kane's midsection in the corner. Kane tries to get out, but Clarke keeps working him over. A big boot drops Kane to the mat, and a cover scores 2. Kane off the ropes - ducks a clothesline - boot to the midsection and a neckbreaker drops Clarke. Kane whips Clarke into the corner, but Clarke manages to get a boot up to stop Kane. He charges at Kane, but Kane simply lifts him up and delivers a shoulder breaker. Clarke is dragged back to the corner and Taker is let in. Taker works over the shoulder for awhile, which sets up Taker going Old School. Taker gets a cross armbreaker, but Adams makes it into the ring to stop it. Clarke gains control with a bunch of stomping. Clarke tags in Adams, and the two boot away at him. Adams gets Taker in a neutral corner and comes at Taker with a series of punches. Off the ropes, and Adams hits a dropkick which gets 2. Taker whipped into the other corner, and as Adams charges he meets a big boot. Taker comes back with right hands. Off the ropes, Adams kicks Taker in the face but that just serves to piss him off. Adams ducks a clothesline, and clotheslines Taker over the top, only to get pulled out to the floor by him. Taker shoves Adams around gently, then Clarke dives off the apron onto Taker. Clarke kicks at Taker, until Kane comes over to save the day. Kronik pounds on the back of Kane, then shove him back into the ring. Over to taker, they roll him back in. Double shoulderblock sends him down, and Adams gets 2 out of the deal. Adams to the chinlock. Man, this is getting really brutal. Taker fights out of it. Off the ropes, he jumps right into Adams' waiting arms and takes a slam. Clarke is tagged in and he does a bunch of kicking before Taker comes forward with the DDT. He crawls to the ropes and hot tags Kane. Kane with a kicks and clotheslines of furry. Did you know he's a hoss? JR told me so. Clarke takes a sidewalk slam. Both guys are setup for a chokeslam, but they escape. Double clothesline is turned into a triple clothesline as all 3 fall. Taker is tagged in hotly, and he does the damage now. All four are in the ring now, and Clarke takes a big boot. Adams is sent outside. Steven Richards tries to get involved but he's knocked out by Taker in a hurry. Adams comes through with a jawbreaker, but Taker does his damnedest to fight everyone off. Kane off the top with a flying clothesline, and Taker finishes with a Chokeslam on Clarke. Time: 10:27
Steven Richards comes in and he apologizes for everything he has done. Richards gets chokeslammed regardless. NOTE: Following the show, WWF officials decided to send Kronik down to the minors. Kronik refused and quit. Booker T is staring at his hand. The title is coming back home tonight. Tazz is excited about the fact the title is coming home. He thinks it would be really sad if they couldn't beat The Rock, considering Stephanie DID. Booker makes faces. Stephanie asks The Coach where RVD is. He says dressing room #5. She knocks on the door, but doesn't go in. She talks to the door instead. She says it would be a wonderful birthday present if he beat Chris Jericho. He has a lot of talent and everyone knows it. His experience in the Alliance would be a very pleasurable one if he won the match. Jericho meanwhile is standing behind her. He asks how old she'll be, 37, 38? She says 25, and he makes the joke about the number of men she's been with. The rest of this is breast jokes. HILARIOUS! ROB VAN DAM vs. CHRIS JERICHO (for the WWF Hardcore Title) The 2 circle eachother like sharks for awhile. They finally hook up, and go through a series of arm drag style reversals. Then they start leapfrogging, and connect with a double dropkick. The 2 pose and the fans give them a round of applause for that set. Lock up again and they again go through a series of reversals, leading to a headscissors style submission on Jericho - which he flips over into a bridge pinning attempt. That gets 2 and RVD has to bridge his way out of that. Backslide is won by Van Dam and that gets 2. Jericho gets up and goes to the chops. Off the ropes, RVD escapes the hiptoss and tries a monkey flip - however Jericho reverses and flips over trying to cover which leads to a series of sloppy reversals for 2. They pose and don't get applause this time due to the sloppiness of Jericho. RVD chant does break out though. RVD declares himself RVD. Yup. Jericho slaps him, and RVD slaps back. They trade punches, and Jericho rakes the eyes to gain an advantage. Jericho off the ropes, and delivers a flying double axehandle which he follows through into a ground series of punches. Jericho picks RVD up, chops at him, and whips him off the ropes only to have it reversed. Jericho slips under RVD's legs, comes up and delivers an unassisted enzuigiri. The over gets 2. Jericho gets a knee to RVD's face, then charges into the opposite corner only to eat boot. Van Dam leaps to the second rope and hits a leaping mule kick. Van Dam kicks Jericho in the midsection a few times, then rolls him through with a body scissors take over - which manages to score a 2. Impressive looking rollup. Off the ropes, Jericho tries a back bodydrop which RVD escapes from, but he can't escape a flapjack. RVD rolls out to the apron. Jericho tries his springboard dropkick but RVD ducks and Jericho goes crashing to the floor. RVD goes over the top with a slingshot crossbody, and covers on the floor for a 2. Jericho is sent face first into the post, then hotshotted onto the security wall. RVD announces he's RVD, then tries his spinning kick onto the wall, but Jericho misses and RVD takes it ankle first. Jericho goes under the ring and brings a ladder into the mix. He runs the ladder face first into RVD, then tosses it onto his back. Van Dam is rolled back into the ring, and setup in the corner to get chopped at. Jericho tries a whip to the other side which RVD reverses. RVD comes forward with 2 shoulderblocks - does a backflip - and misses the third as Jericho sidesteps, hitting the post full on. Jericho smartly throws him into the post a second time to do more damage to the shoulder. Jericho gets the ladder into the ring, and hits a snap suplex onto the ladder. Jericho covers, and gets 2. Jericho goes for a second suplex which is countered, and RVD hits one of his own. JR says some yahoo is sitting at home saying "yeah, they know how to fall. How do you learn to fall kidney first onto a ladder?" Well, I actually WASN'T thinking that, but now that you bring it up - spread your body weight out evenly, and have your legs hit the ground first absorbing most of the impact. JR, that kind of commentary isn't helpful to anyone - so just stop it. They trade punches for awhile, then Jericho comes off the ropes and RVD misses a dropkick. Jericho smells blood and rushes right in to put on the Walls Of Jericho. Van Dam manages to use his leg strength to roll Jericho off - get up - and hit a pump kick to Jericho's face. RVD goes off the ropes - does a somersault - then a standing froggy splash for 2. Van Dam gets frustrated now, and drops a leg, then goes for the split legged moonsault - but Jericho gets his legs up to knock the wind out of him. Jericho hits a bulldog, then the Lionsault - but RVD moves - and Jericho lands on his feet anyway. RVD gets up and connects with the spinning heel kick. RVD heads up top and misses the Five Star Frogsplash! Jericho quickly rolls through with a cover and gets 2. Jericho's eye is bleeding - the third bleeding eye on the night from my count. Jericho gets the ladder and goes after RVD, only to take a droptoe hold and he lands face first on the ladder. RVD set it up in the corner, and gets a chair. He drives a chair into Jericho's midsection a few times - before hitting a scoop slam onto the chair. Van Dam sets up the ladder in front of Jericho and climbs to the top. RVD looks at the fans, and fails to notice Jericho's on his feet. As he turns around, he takes a chair to the face which knocks him goofy. Jericho starts to climb the ladder, and puts on a modified Walls Of Jericho. Jericho then shoves RVD off the top, and he bounces off the ropes to the floor. Jericho steps over carefully to the top rope, and makes a leap of faith - only to have RVD move and Jericho goes face first into the security wall. Jericho gets up to the apron - but RVD simply kicks him back to the floor. Jericho reaches under the ring and comes up with a chair. RVD comes forward full blast with a tope through the middle rope - and takes the chair right to the face. Y2J chant breaks out now. Jericho covers and gets 2. Jericho runs RVD shoulder first into the ring post. He rolls RVD back into the ring and attempts to send him off the ropes. RVD reverses, they each ducks a clothesline - Jericho goes for an enzuigiri, but RVD counters with a spinkick. That gets 2. Jericho suddenly gets a burst of adrenaline and puts on an armbar. RVD rolls out to the floor as best he can - and gets whipped into the stairs for his trouble. Jericho keeps pounding on RVD's shoulder. Jericho drives the chair into RVD's back, and FUCKING STEPHANIE runs down to the ring. Jericho swings the chair at her head - misses - turns around and takes a Van Daminator. RVD comes off the top with the Five Star Frogsplash which ends it. Time: 16:37
Was it REALLY necessary to involve Stephanie McMahon in the finish? Would it have killed them to simply have Jericho miss a chair shot, turn around, eat a Van Daminator and cue the finish? I am ungodly tired of her involved in the finish of big matches - and she has been for the LAST TWO YEARS. The psychology was well done with Jericho working on the shoulder of Van Dam though, and the match was only sloppy near the start before it got itself on track. RVD's best outing in the WWF to date. Here's the best damn Don't Try This At Home PSA the WWF has ever put out. WWF Divas In Hedonism is on PPV this month for $9.95. You can also buy the video in stores for $10.95. They don't actually mention the fact that you can do this - but I promise, you can. The Rock is pacing backstage. Shane and Booker T agree to bring the title back to the Alliance, and it doesn't matter who wins the title. Booker leaves, and Shane seems excited about winning the WCW World Heavyweight Title for the first time. Here's a special look at the feud between Rocky and Booker T. SHANE MCMAHON and BOOKER T vs. THE ROCK (in a Handicap Match for the WCW World Heavyweight Title) Rocky trash talks Shane - probably telling him how sick he is of the fact that just because he's Vince's kid he constantly gets put in matches against The Rock. Booker T and Rocky start this one. Nick Patrick is interestingly enough the referee. Rocky comes forward with a series of rights, then sends Booker off the ropes only to take his boot to the face. Rock comes forward with a clothesline to stop that. Rock stomps on Booker's back. Rock is sent off the ropes, and he hits a neckbreaker? That's another new one from Rocky as far as I can tell! Shane breaks up the count at 2. Booker stomps a mudhole in Rocky and punches him, only to be hit with a belly to back suplex. Shane again breaks up the 3 count, and attacks The Rock while he's down. Booker T tags in Shane - and he walks right into an angry Rock. Shane runs around the ring while Rocky chases him. They meet in the middle of the ring and Rock starts the right hands a blazin'! Back elbow knocks Shane to the mat. They go off the ropes, and Rock gets kicked by Booker in the back, then Shane follows through with a clothesline. Shane drops a double axehandle, then a couple of elbows. He tags in Booker T, and Booker goes to work. Sidewalk slam gets a 2 count. Booker tags in Shane, then holds Rocky in place for Shane to punch at him for awhile. Off the ropes they go, and Rocky tosses Shane across the ring. Booker gets knocked off the apron by Rocky, then the camera misses whatever Shane does to knock Rocky down. Shane does his dancing punches, but Rocky knocks him back to the mat and puts on the Sharpshooter. Booker comes in to stop it - and takes punches for his effort. Rocky goes off the ropes, only to have Shane pulling them down and he goes tumbling over the top. Rock gets stomped on the outside. Shane goes up on the security wall - and connects with the flying clothesline. Rocky is rolled back into the ring and Booker knocks Rocky down. While Booker distracts the ref, Shane drags Rocky crotch first around the pole. Booker gets some punches fired off - then a snapmare for 2. Booker charges at Rock and gets tossed over the top. Shane comes in and clotheslines Rocky under the bottom rope to the floor. Booker T gets a chair while Shane's distracting the ref, but he misses and hits the pole. What a match! The fans give an okay pop. All the Angle's come in and hoist Kurt on their shoulders and now the fans are a little more awake. I REALLY hate this crowd. Rocky comes from the back and offers his hand to Angle, and here comes more superstars. I can't name all of them off. Memories of Wrestlemania X. Total Matches: 9
There was something missing from tonight's show - and it may be because the WWF returned to Pittsburgh so soon after Kurt won the WCW World Heavyweight Title there. The matches were fantastic though so this is definitely a show to get your hands on if you didn't get a chance to watch it first hand Sunday night. |
